KREMLIN (TERRITORY AND CATHEDRALS)

Visit one of the most well-known sights of Moscow – the Kremlin with its red brick walls and 20 towers holding their own unique history. Since its first construction in 1156 as a wooden fortress by the order of Grand Duke Yuri Dolgoruky, it has been rebuilt several times. The current appearance was formed in 1495 by the best architects of Russia and Italy. TRETYAKOV GALLERY

The State Tretyakov Gallery was founded in 1856 by the merchant and patron of the arts Pavel Tretyakov to display the works of Russian artists. It holds the richest collection (more than 150 000 works) of Russian painters and sculptors from the 18th and 19th centuries like Brullov, Kiprensky, Aivazovsky, Ivanov or Repin, as well as the finest collection of Russian icons. Among the treasures of the gallery are “Morning in a pine forest” by Shishkin, “Alyonushka” by Vasnetsov, “Ivan the terrible and his son Ivan” by Repin and many others.

Arbat Street is one of the oldest streets in Moscow. Originally it was a part of an important trade route and was home to a large number of craftsmen. In the 18th century Arbat became one of the most prestigious living areas in Moscow and then a place for the intelligentsia and artists to live. In soviet times young people used to held their meetings and protests here. The street nowadays reflects these eventful periods with its elegant buildings, a museum in the house of great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, a lot of nice shops, cafés and restaurants, an entire wall dedicated to the pioneers of Russian rock and the impressive building of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

METRO TOUR

It was built in 1904, but the current appearance it acquired in 2015, after the global reconstruction, which lasted 4 years. This sacred place existed even during the soviet times – when all the churches were closed. Today it is a majestic 6-storey building in Byzantine style with several minarets, turrets and domes, covered by the 12 kg of gold leaf. The interior is decorated by traditional Tatar ornaments and paintings with verses from the Koran.

TSARITSYNO MANOR

This beautiful red and white architectural ensemble is the biggest neo-gothic building in Europe. Having a rough history it was first built as a luxury cottage for Empress Catherine the Great, destroyed, rebuilt after the original plan, abandoned during Communist times, then restored, and inscribed as a historical protected area in the late 2000’s. VDNKH WALKING TOUR

This Russian acronym stands for the Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy (VDNKh). Created in 1939 as an open-air agricultural exhibition, it was transformed in a permanent trade show where the social-realistic-style building represented each republic of the USSR. It is nowadays the largest exhibition, museum and recreational complex in the world, one of the most popular public spaces in the capital of Russia, which is annually visited by 25 millions of people. It is a diverse and lively park featuring the original iconic buildings, beautiful fountains, museums like Cosmonaut Museum, world famous sculpture of the Worker and the Kolkhoz Woman, authentic full-size airplane as well as flowered parks. With its handful of restaurants and stands and spaces for skating or cycling, this icon place offers so many cultural and natural facilities that it is definitely worth a visit!

COSMONAUT MUSEUM

The Museum of Cosmonautics, one of the largest science museums in the world, opened its doors to public in April 1981. The museum’s exposition gives a retrospect on how Soviet space science evolved starting from the first man-made satellites, the first manned space flight, the first space walks, Moon exploration programs, Solar system exploration programs and international space research programs. In addition to learning about these fascinating discoveries, the visit to the Museum is a good way to discover the history of Cold war.
