KREMLIN (TERRITORY AND CATHEDRALS)

Visit one of the most well-known sights of Moscow – the Kremlin with its red brick walls and 20 towers holding their own unique history. Since its first construction in 1156 as a wooden fortress by the order of Grand Duke Yuri Dolgoruky, it has been rebuilt several times. The current appearance was formed in 1495 by the best architects of Russia and Italy. Today Kremlin is the residence of Russian President and the main symbol of the country, revered by all of its citizens.

RED SQUARE WALKING TOUR

Even if you have seen this place and its landmarks dozens of times, it will be a breathtaking experience to see it in real life. During the walking tour, you will have the time to take pictures of this 73,000 square meters brick-paved square surrounded by the Kremlin Walls, Lenin’s Tomb, St Basil’s Cathedral, Resurrection gate, GUM superstore and the Russian State Historical Museum. Turn to the left, and find yourself in one of the oldest urban public parks in Moscow – Alexander Garden. It keeps a lot of valuable architectural monuments: Kutafia tower of the Kremlin, Italian grotto, an obelisk to the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty, as well as sculptures, fountains and mosaics based on popular fairytales. GUM DEPARTMENT STORE EXCURSION

GUM (State Department Store) is considered the main department store of Russia. It is located in a stunning historical building on the Red Square, and thus is one of the most famous landmarks of Moscow. The first grand opening of the store took place in 1893. It symbolized the beginning of new era for Moscow and was to become the largest, most fashionable and technically advanced European Department store. During this tour you will learn the fascinating history of GUM: how it was transformed and rebuilt several times, why Stalin was willing to destroy it and what stopped him, it is just endless! Today GUM is among the favorite places to spent free time for residents of the capital and a must-visit for tourists.

VDNKH WALKING TOUR

This Russian acronym stands for the Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy (VDNKh). Created in 1939 as an open-air agricultural exhibition, it was transformed in a permanent trade show where the social-realistic-style building represented each republic of the USSR. It is nowadays the largest exhibition, museum and recreational complex in the world, one of the most popular public spaces in the capital of Russia, which is annually visited by 25 millions of people. It is a diverse and lively park featuring the original iconic buildings, beautiful fountains, museums like Cosmonaut Museum, world famous sculpture of the Worker and the Kolkhoz Woman, authentic full-size airplane as well as flowered parks. With its handful of restaurants and stands and spaces for skating or cycling, this icon place offers so many cultural and natural facilities that it is definitely worth a visit!

CRUISE BY MOSKVA RIVER ON THE RADISSON ICE-BREAKER WITH DINNER

COSMONAUT MUSEUM

The Museum of Cosmonautics, one of the largest science museums in the world, opened its doors to public in April 1981. The museum’s exposition gives a retrospect on how Soviet space science evolved starting from the first man-made satellites, the first manned space flight, the first space walks, Moon exploration programs, Solar system exploration programs and international space research programs. In addition to learning about these fascinating discoveries, the visit to the Museum is a good way to discover the history of Cold war.

Day 4) Moscow

ARBAT STREET

Arbat Street is one of the oldest streets in Moscow. Originally it was a part of an important trade route and was home to a large number of craftsmen. In the 18th century Arbat became one of the most prestigious living areas in Moscow and then a place for the intelligentsia and artists to live. In soviet times young people used to held their meetings and protests here. The street nowadays reflects these eventful periods with its elegant buildings, a museum in the house of great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, a lot of nice shops, cafés and restaurants, an entire wall dedicated to the pioneers of Russian rock and the impressive building of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

METRO TOUR

If you wonder why Moscow metro is considered one the most beautiful in the world, this tour is for you! It constitutes a vast museum of underground palaces with impressive interiors, statues and reliefs, monumental and decorative compositions (paintings, mosaics, stained glass and painting) and numerous labyrinths. During the tour you will visit the most remarkable stations like Komsomolskaya, Kurskaya, Kievskaya and others, with the experienced guide who will bring you a full insight into their fascinating history.

MOSCOW CATHEDRAL MOSQUE (ENTRANCE)

With a total area of 18 900 m2 and a capacity of up to 10 000 persons Moscow cathedral mosque is one of the highest and largest in Europe. It was built in 1904, but the current appearance it acquired in 2015, after the global reconstruction, which lasted 4 years. This sacred place existed even during the soviet times – when all the churches were closed. Today it is a majestic 6-storey building in Byzantine style with several minarets, turrets and domes, covered by the 12 kg of gold leaf. The interior is decorated by traditional Tatar ornaments and paintings with verses from the Koran.

Day 6) St.Petersburg

KAZAN CATHEDRAL

The Kazan Cathedral was built in 1811 and is usually associated with Russia’s victory over Napoleon in 1812. Its monumental construction was designed in Russian classical style, but it also carries resemblance to great St. Paul cathedral in Rome. Such resemblance was made on purpose – emperor Pavel the First wanted his city to be close to stylish Italy. All 96 columns of cathedral look at the Nevsky Street and greet people walking in the center of Saint Petersburg with its elegant beauty. Museum, which is situated inside of the cathedral, displays many relics from the Patriotic war, including banners and the heart of Field-Marshal Kutuzov. You are guaranteed to see these relics as well as spectacular Orthodox Church services. Moreover, the small park near the cathedral is the finest place to feed little birds from your hand and blend with locals.

PETER AND PAUL FORTRESS

Peter and Paul Fortress is the place of birth of Saint Petersburg, here began the foundation of this beautiful city. Today it is home to several museums, which exhibit to everyone the splendid history of Saint-Petersburg’s foundation and growth. Here you may visit main museums like the Peter and Paul cathedral – the tallest building in the city center and the burial place of members of the Imperial family – the Grand Ducan Mausoleum, the Boat house, the Artillery Armory, the Mint, Engineering and Commandant’s house, guardhouse and many others. The fortress also used to be a political prison as you may see during a visit to its casemates, in the XIX in became the main political prison of Russia.

ELISEEVSKIY STORE

When walking down Nevsky Prospekt, you will notice a large house decorated with massive statues, window panes, and stucco molding. Then, make no mistake: you are staring at Eliseyev Emporium! Constructed between 1902 and 1903, this impressive store building originally belonged to the Elisseeff Brothers merchants. The oddity of its architectural style raised contemporaries’ eyebrows, to say the least. The excessively bedecked faades featuring the floral theme and four figures embodying Science, Commerce, Industry, and Arts continue to bedazzle. As you step inside, you will see that the interior design perfectly matches the exterior. The trade floors are brimming with decorative mirrors and bronze lighting. There are not many stores in Russia that survived the Revolution, and Eliseyev Emporium is one of them. Through this excursion, you will have a chance to buy gifts for your family and friends back at home.

Day 7) St. Petersburg

NEVSKY PROSPECT WALKING TOUR

Nevsky prospect has always been the main street of the city, it remembers many important historical events. On both sides the street is surrounded by architectural masterpieces, keeping their own unique history.
